Better than David de Gea, Ederson and Alisson? Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois is world’s best goalkeeper, says Belgium boss Roberto Martinez

The 27-year-old has struggled for form since completing a £31million move to Real Madrid from Chelsea last summer.

And he was dropped from the starting XI for Saturday’s 2-1 win over Alaves, with manager Zinedine Zidane opting to play Paris Saint-Germain loanee Alphonse Areola.

Martinez will be hoping Courtois regains his starting place and form in time for Euro 2020.

The Spaniard said: “Thibaut is for me the best goalkeeper in the world, as he showed at the [2018] World Cup.

“From there, he is the best person for me to defend Real Madrid’s goal.

“It has been a difficult period, but I think that the opportunity to return with the national team has helped him to regain the good feelings, in the same way that we hope that the successes he has at Real Madrid can help us in the Euros.”
