In a first recorded case of Trypanosoma rhodesiense infection in India, a 28-year-old woman’s blood sample was taken to examine this disease. It spreads only through Tsetse fly which is not found in India. The woman had fell ill on her trip to Africa. Despite being admitted in a hospital in Delhi, the woman’s health deteriorated rapidly. Medical experts then suggested to go to a very unusual place – the IVRI (Indian Veterinary Research Institute), a research institute for animal health, in Bareilly.
