The first episode of The Road to All Out features Shawn Spears challenging Cody Rhodes to a match at All Out on Aug. 31 in Chicago during a sit down interview with Jim Ross. During the interview, Spears admitted to attacking Cody with a chair because he called him a good hand.
Spears said Rhodes is a leech. He talked about Cody using him to teach him how to wrestle back in their ways in WWE developmental at OVW. He then said Rhodes used his former tag partners and mentioned names like Hardcore Holly, Ted DiBiase Jr., and Damien Sandow. For some reason, Sandow’s name was bleeped out, but the bleep missed it. Spears then challenged Rhodes to a match at All Out. Tony Khan had previously confirmed the match would take place during his post-show press scrum after Fight for the Fallen last weekend.
The interview ended when Tully Blanchard walked into the picture and whispered something in Spears’s ear. He then told Ross that the interview was over.
Radican’s Analysis: This was a good sit down interview with Ross. It allowed Spears to reveal his motivations for hitting Cody with a chair and challenge him to a match at All Out. It also revealed that Tully Blanchard appears be his new manager. I don’t think Spears needs a mouth piece, but I’m interested to see where this pairing between Spears and Blanchard goes.
The previous editions of this series had been releasing at 6:05 p.m. Eastern each Wednesday so it’s interesting to see that this weeks episode was released at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on a Wednesday, as AEW heads towards TV on TNT in the Fall.
This episode also featured the debut of the AEW Control Center with Tony Schiavone, who pitched to a very good interview segment with Hangman Page talking about the injury to his eye last weekend and his upcoming match for the AEW World Championship against Chris Jericho to crown the first AEW World Champion at All Out.
