Already scheduled Iowa State at Minnesota dual to be part of National Duals Series

NWCA Announces National Duals Pairings

The National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA) announced Monday the pairings for all eight matches in the 2016 NWCA Division I National Championship Duals Series that will take place this coming weekend, pairings that include the previously scheduled dual between No. 16 Minnesota and No. 13 Iowa State at Williams Arena this Friday at 7:30 p.m. Central.

The Gophers, by virtue of a top-eight finish in the Big Ten, were guaranteed to host one of the National Duals matches. Iowa State was selected by NWCA as one of the two wild-card teams to join the field that also includes six regular season conference champions from outside the Big Ten.

This year’s National Duals more closely mirror the college football bowl season than the two-day tournament that has been held in the past. Each participating school will compete in one dual against another national-caliber opponent, with the winner of the top pairing claiming the title of National Duals champion.

The Friday night tilt between the Gophers and the Cyclones will kick off the weekend-long celebration of college wrestling, featuring many of the nation’s best teams. Matches will continue on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at seven other host sites around the Big Ten. Full pairings are available here.

For fans that cannot make it to Williams Arena for Friday night’s contest, it will be streamed live on BTN Plus beginning at 7:30 p.m. As always, live updates from throughout the match will be available by following Gopher Wrestling on Twitter.
