Augustana travels North this week to take on Minnesota State and MSU Moorhead
Augustana (14-2) travels up north this weekend to continue Conference Dual season. The Vikings will first take on Minnesota State (7-2). The dual is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. Next up Augustana will then face off against MSU Moorhead (5-8). The dual is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.
This will be the 38th meeting between the Vikings and the Mavericks. Minnesota State holds a 21-17 record against Augustana. The Vikings won last year’s dual 19-18, winning matches at 184 and 197 to seal the victory. This is the 16th meeting between Augustana and MSU Moorhead. The Vikings hold a 15-1 record against the Dragons. Augustana won last year’s dual 35-3, winning nine matches in the process.
Augustana improved to 3-0 in NSIC Duals
Augustana returned home to face a couple of NSIC opponents last weekend. First up the Vikings took on Southwest Minnesota State. Augustana were victorious 27-12 over the Mustangs. Duncan Stoebner (125 Pounds) got Augustana on the board first with a 3-1 sudden victory over Taylor Curtis. The two wrestlers were deadlocked at one heading into overtime when Stoebner got the takedown early in overtime to secure the victory.
Jacob Anderson (149) continued the momentum for Augustana with a first period pin over Paul Norgen. This was Anderson’s third pin of the season.
Lane Lettau (197 Pounds) gave the Vikings a 27-6 lead with an 8-5 decision over Ashton Bartlett. Lettau during the match scored a takedown, an escape and four-point near fall to get the win.
Next up Augustana took on U-Mary. The Vikings defeated the Marauders 34-8. Brandon Charbonneau (141 Pounds) would get Augustana on the board with a 7-5 decision over Reed Cronin.
Shawn Hatlestad (157 Pounds) would give the Vikings a 10-8 lead with a 7-4 decision over Dane Fischer. Hatlestad was only up 5-4 late in the third period when Hatlestad scored a takedown late in the match to secure the victory.
Mitch Rechtzigel (165 Pounds) scored a 9-6 decision over Paul Michaelson. Rechtzigel was down 4-3 going into the second period, he would get a takedown in the second period and another in the third to gain the win.
Augustana would get falls by Tim Weber (174 Pounds), Aero Amo (184 Pounds) and Lane Lettau (197 Pounds). Michael Lowman (285 Pounds) would go on and win by a 2-1 decision over Travis Smith to secure the 34-8 victory.
Two Augustana wrestlers ranked in the WCA rankings poll
- Aero Amo moved up to No. 4 in 184 pounds, Michael Lowman moved down at No. 8 at 285 pounds
- Augustana comes in at No. 7 in the NCAA Super Region 3 Rankings
- Aero Amo stayed at the No. 1 spot at 184 pounds.
- Michael Lowman moved down one spot to No. 4 at 285 pounds.
