Lio Rush Tackles Backstage Heat, WWE Not Paying Him For Merch, Finn Balor Rumors & More In New Interview

WWE Superstar Lio Rush has been all over the news cycle over the past few weeks.

Among the various reports were claims that Rush has a negative attitude backstage, is seen as being arrogant, and refuses to do menial tasks such as carry water and supplies for the veteran stars on the roster — referred to by many as “paying his dues”.

Other reports alleged that Rush constantly has his wife with him at all times, including during rehearsals before Raw, as well as an incident where Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor approached him about some of these things, and apparently received a less-than-stellar response.

Fightful.com, who has been the most consistent source of credible information throughout this evolving process, actually landed an interview with the WWE Superstar on Wednesday sharing his side of the story.

Rush was quick to Bobby Lashley, telling Fightful that working as The Almighty’s mouthpiece on WWE television has “given me speaking confidence I didn’t know I had.” In fact, he insisted that his issues have nothing to do with the role he plays on-screen whatsoever, but rather that he is not making enough money to suppose the grueling road schedule that being a WWE Superstar requires.

“My issue is the fact that I haven’t been on meet & greets with Bobby, haven’t been getting paid for merchandise for us that has my catchphrases on them. [I] have been sent to live shows and TVs and forced to pay for my own rental for 5 days as well as hotel while not making enough money to do so. Walking around broke in the biggest sports entertainment industry that there is while having two kids and a wife to support.”

The former 205 Live star also cleared up the supposed situation with Finn Balor, claiming that the two of them “are cool” and that his wife has “never been an issue” backstage. Rush claims there is another talent currently signed with WWE that is “leaking false information” in an attempt to get him released.

Finally, with regard to reports about him refusing to “pay his dues”, Rush reminded Fightful that there are eyes on WWE Superstars constantly, with “fans that travel all over the globe and watch us get off of buses and into hotels”.

Not only does he have to worry about the way fans perceive him as a legitimate star, but on a personal note, “a black kid carrying waters and bags for other wrestlers is just not a good look”.
